Magazine Spread Reboot
This magazine spread combines a structured layout and illustration to create an engaging page. The underlying three- by nine grid provides lots of variety in placement. The illustration across the whole spread activates both pages and brings the text and illustration together. The more traditional serif typeface used in the title and subtitle plays in contrast to the loose watercolor-like illustration. The colors chosen are subtle but are still bright and engaging to catch the attention of a reader. The placement of the thought bubbles guides your eyes across the spread, and the illustrations pair together to match the question and response that is presented in this article. This design is a representation of new techniques of combining typography with my own illustration.
